Frequently asked questions
How are JPG, PNG, and WebP compressed?+
JPG and WebP use adjustable encoding quality. PNG reduces RGB color precision; a quality of 100 keeps full color precision. You can also limit the longest edge to scale images down proportionally.
Is transparency preserved?+
PNG and WebP outputs preserve transparency. JPG does not support transparency, so conversion uses a white background.
Will every image become smaller?+
There is no guarantee. With the same format and dimensions, the original is kept if re-encoding does not reduce its size. A requested format change or resize is applied regardless of file size. The actual size is shown and may be larger.
Are animated images and photo metadata supported?+
Only still images are supported. Animated PNG and WebP are not supported. Re-encoding removes original EXIF and other metadata while respecting photo orientation. Keeping the original also keeps its metadata.
Are images uploaded? What are the batch limits?+
Images are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded. Each batch supports up to 50 images and 100 MiB. Each image is limited to 20 MiB and 25 megapixels, with up to 100 megapixels decoded per batch.
